From the very first day my eyes laid upon you,
I knew you were destined for greatness,
Oh, how little did I know.
But, I knew it would be you,
and only you,
you would be the one.

Your bright eyes, your zest for life, your eagerness to please,
Our life journey together,
full of teamwork, love, and fun.
And I knew it would be you,
and only you,
you had become the one.

As with those of your kind, your lifespan way too short,
It is time for us to say our good-byes,
you weigh heavy on my heart.
And, I knew it would be you,
and only you,
you are the one.

Years will go by and my life will unfold,
but you will be there, my friend, your pawprint on my very soul.
And, I knew it would be you,
and only you,
you were the one.
